If this was a new, unopened copy of the game, contact support.

I'm confused-- if you saw it was the wrong game, why did you open the box?
Or do you mean you opened the shipping box, but the game box is still sealed?
If the game box itself is still sealed in the plastic, you should be able to return it to wherever you bought it from. Just tell the retailer that the game sent doesn't match your invoice.

You ordered just the key? From where? If you bought just the key from anywhere else other than NCsoft they wouldn't help you, and other people won't trust you. Besides, keys just by themselves are non-transferable unless if it was still sealed in it's original box unopened. If the number is exposed out in the open, you can't sell it or give it away without violating section 3 of the EULA.

First of all, life is all about this kind of thing happening over and over again, so you just shrug your shoulders and move on. Last year I bought a brand new 58" plasma television and my four year old cracked it in the first week. Oh well, you gotta just roll with it.
Secondly, you now have a 2nd account which you can use to for storage. Not a bad deal.
Trying to deal with trading someone is probably just going to end up with you getting ripped off.

Unfortunately you're indeed out of luck if you didn't order from NC Soft. This is why it's a good idea to only order from reputable retailers with acceptable return policies. (A reputable retailer will make it right if it was their error; a disreputable one will cut and run. Sounds like you got the latter.)
Also, no offense, but your story has changed a lot from your first post. Saying you opened the "box" when you meant opened the "e-mail" is a pretty big error.
It would be a very very bad idea for anyone to trade keys with you. It's skirting the rules at best, and you could both lose your accounts, even if both sides are on the up and up, and either side of such a trade could be a scam.
If you're telling the truth, I think you just need to let this be a learning experience, take the loss, and buy from a reputable merchant next time.

You're telling us they told you "not too many" copies of GW are selling? This does not sound legit at all.

Any site that "sells" only the key other than NCsoft or from GW's in-game store is not legit. And as others said, you can lose your account to account banning for account trading.
There is a REASON why sites like offgamers that sells account keys are based in china or hong kong where intellectual property laws are loose.

You seriously expect us to believe that NC Soft accepted a return of a key from a probably-not-legit third party retailer, are making a replacement conditional on their being able to sell that key to someone else, and then gave vague but unflattering sales numbers when asked?
Sorry, I call bull.
If you mean the third-party site, do you not see how shady that is?

We're not flaming you, but don't expect us to help you for ordering from illegal sites based in China or Hong Kong.

I don't intend to flame you, but the thing is, either you got scammed or you're trying to scam someone else into trading with you. If it's the former, I feel bad for you, but your story keeps changing and that makes me wary of you.
The site you bought the key from is not legit. Only NC Soft/ArenaNet sell keys. Other legitimate retailers sell boxed products, not keys.
Please stop doing business with this third party site. Doesn't matter if you've used them before; it's still not legit. Either buy your Nightfall key from NC Soft or buy the box, and then you won't have to worry about stuff like this happening.

Moral of the story... if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is. Before ordering from any site, I'd check where the domain is registered using things like domain tools. If it's in China, Hong Kong, Russia, or any other country where intellectual property laws and enforcement is loose, I'd stay away from it.
